Tram disruption as van got stuck in the track
ABOUT seven trams were delayed after a van became stuck in the track.
It happened after the vehicle was driven up a tram-only viaduct in Middle Hill in the city centre on Saturday morning – despite new 'no-entry' warning signs.

A spokesman for tram operators NET said: "Apparently the driver was not from the area and he said he lost concentration and continued to drive down the viaduct until he saw a tram and then panicked and got his van stuck. Six or seven journeys were disrupted but we soon got back to normal and removed the van without any damage to the vehicle or the track."
Mark Jackson, of Aspley, who took a picture of the incident, said: "The van was wedged in the lines. There were trams waiting in either direction."

“The disruption to tram services is unacceptable. Next time we shall send down a grab crane and simply grab the vehicle and drop it over the side on to the derelict land. The driver will then get a bill for the crane hire.”

“No Dave. A bus would've gone around the van and got stuck the sam - BECAUSE THERE'S NO ROAD THERE MORON! How this keeps happening I've no idea. The drivers oughtn't be allowed on the roads. In fact i think it should be used as a good test. anyone getting stuck down there loses their license straight away as they are obviously not fit to drive!”

“Idiot van driver, yes, but a bus would have been able to steer around the obstruction. With trams, the entire system grinds to a halt.”

“I recall a similar story where a female driver had driven onto the track and got stuck, and there were lots of comments (mainly from men) about "typical female drivers" and even that women shouldn't be allowed to drive! Odd how few comments there are because it's a male driver.”

“If this driver can lose concentration so much as to drive past the signs telling him not to go onto the viaduct, it's just fortunate there weren't a group of pedestrians crossing the road!”

“Another dozy motorist, said he lost concentration and panicked.
He should be charged with driving without due care and attention, be banned and ordered to take a retest.”
