Tram delays due to fire in signal box overnight
TRAM users face service delays today following a fire in a Network Rail signal box near Bulwell during the night.
NET's Marketing Manager, Florian Le Loroux said: "Unfortunately the incident has affected all of our signalling between Bulwell and Hucknall and, in addition, the crossing at David Lane has been affected.
-

"This means that services will be delayed and the impact will be across the entire network. Currently all trams are running but it may be that some services to Hucknall will need to be reduced at some point.
"Our customers are advised to keep abreast of service times on the station stop passenger information displays and our website, both of which are being continually up-dated.

“But Dave Nottm – the system was not brought to a halt. It was thought that at first that there might be some delays but in fact it ran much as normal. But hey don't let that little minor factual detail get in the way.”

“"As for a tram it does not have that same flexibility"
On Wednesday when University Boulevard was closed, I didn't hear much talk of "flexibility" then from car owners. Why weren't they using all these diversion routes they keep talking about whenever the tram system has a problem?”

“Inflexible, expensive, disruptive whilst being built, dangerous to cyclists.....Take the tram?...NO thanks!”

“Remember this was caused by a fault on Network Rail's Robin Hood Line, which isn't running to Bulwell, Hucknall or Newstead at all today. At least the trams continued to run, albeit with a few delays.
Also, if a tram breaks down, they use the following one to pull it back to the depot, where it is replaced by one of two spares. It causes a delay, but not the total collapse of service some people think.”

“What our bus hating friends fail to mention is that when it breaks down, another one doesn,t come along to replace it like buses. It stays put until it is repaired”

“I'm sorry but if you are going to put expensive electronic equipment in Bulwell, you should expect it be be on fire every now and again!”

“What are tram hating friends fail to mention is that the Nottingham trams run with a reliability record of 99%. No bus in the history of buses has ever achieved such a record.”

“If this was an electrical fault at a comparable bus station route just for example, the bus would be able to re-route through different thoroughfares (so long as it avoids University Boulevard).
As for a tram it does not have that same flexibility. SAY NO MORE! When it breaks down the whole system stops”

“Half a billion pounds for a system that can be brought grinding to a standstill by an electrical fault. What good value for money!”
