Tram campaigners to have Westminster debate
CAMPAIGNERS calling for Nottingham's tram network to be extended to Kimberley and Eastwood are to have their proposals heard in Westminster.
The Kimberley, Eastwood & Nuthall Tram Action Group (KENTAG) are to attend an all-party Parliamentary Group debate in London to discuss the future of light rail.
KENTAG chairman Andy Cooper will take part in the meeting with former Labour Transport Minister Tom Harris, ex-Conservative Secretary of State for Transport, Stephen Norris, and Lib-Dem Shadow Secretary of State for Transport, Norman Baker, on December 8.
He said: "We have been given every encouragement to carry on and have learnt that there is evidence of a first plan for a tram extension to Kimberley documented during 2001.
"We will initiate a major leafleting campaign in and around Kimberley during 2010."
KENTAG's campaign has also been backed by Broxtowe MP Nick Palmer and Kimberley borough councillor Richard Robinson.
For more information about the campaign, call Mr Cooper on 0115 917 7166.
