PEOPLE tracing their family tree will have free access to archives from today.

Amateur genealogists can check out the 1911 Census at Nottinghamshire Archives, which was completed by 36 million householders.

The free access will run for a year and has been funded by National Archives and findmypast.com

Coun John Cottee, cabinet member for culture and community at Notts County Council, said: "The census was launched nationally in January this year and attracted 1.5m people in its first four weeks alone. We are very privileged to have been selected by National Archives and findmypast.com and are hoping to achieve similar success on a local scale here in Nottinghamshire."

To view the census at Nottinghamshire Archives in Castle Meadow Road, book a computer by calling 0115 958 1634.
