TONGAN World Cup star Sione Kalamafoni proved he has fully acclimatised to the bleak Nottingham winter by whipping his shirt off in training.

Rather than having the tropical backdrop he is used to, the powerful forward posed haka-style at Lady Bay.

While the rest of the country thought it wiser to wrap up, the 23-year-old Nottingham Rugby hard-man was happy to showcase his winter pedigree.

"Everybody is saying it's cold – this is just me getting ready to train," Kalamafoni said.

"You need to get the adrenalin going when it's a little cold like this, so why not take the shirt off."

And he was only too happy to pose with his temporary team-mate, Snowamafoni the rugby snow man.

"He's a good-looking snowman that we put together, a big guy too," said Kalamafoni.

"But he's not very good on his feet – he fell over as soon as we turned away."

No one else dared follow Kalamafoni's example, with French prop Raphael Olive laughing off the suggestion.

But none of the Green and Whites shied away from training, with director of rugby Glenn Delaney not letting the conditions disrupt preparation for his team's rescheduled double-header.

First it was a run around the pitch to warm up, before the forwards packed down for scrum and line-out work.

Meanwhile, the backs were allowed to escape to David Lloyd to complete their work-out ahead of what is shaping up to be a crucial double-header against Leeds and Doncaster next week.

The forced rescheduling of an entire round of the RFU Championship sees Nottingham take on Leeds at Meadow Lane on Sunday, and then they will take to the field to host Doncaster three days later on Wednesday, February 15.

"We are not going to stop doing what we do," Delaney said.

"It was a full session spent in between the snow and David Lloyd.

"And for the rest of the week, thanks to our great partners at South Notts College, we will be on the rubber turf.

"Honestly, over the past few years we have got used to dealing with these sort of conditions and know just how to get through everything we need to with minimal disruption."

All purchased tickets for the Leeds and Doncaster games can be used at the respective re-scheduled fixture and refunds can be claimed up to 5pm on the last working day before the match.

The Family Big Day Out promotion for the Leeds game, of £5 tickets for adults and £1 for children, is still valid this Sunday.

All you need to do is fill out a flyer on the day. They will be handed out and be available outside the stadium, then pay at the Meadow Lane ticket office to claim the bargain prices.

Delaney will have an almost full-strength squad at his disposal this weekend with David Jackson available for selection against Carnegie, Alex Shaw (ankle) improving in training and Matt Parr (knee) returning to the training ground as well.

But all Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, and Derbyshire (NLD) U20, and Nottingham Rugby Academy training sessions at Lady Bay have been called off because of the conditions.
