Ton-up Simpson is flying high at Jansons
ANDREW Simpson saw off a quality field in a cracking Tuesday Open at Jansons, which again featured nine ton-plus weights.
Simpson, though late to his peg, was immediately onto the fish and kept them in front of him to take a massive 191-7 to the scales and win his second Jansons match in a row.
Steve Draper weighed in with 166-1 and Gerry 138-9, both on maggot, to take second and third.
Regular Dave Holland, taking his usual bag of silvers on caster, also bagged up on carp to take fourth place with 129-9, with Colin Crisp, Bob Burton and Colin Spencer in hot pursuit.
Simpson stormed away with the last three-hour flyer of the year at Jansons. He took 118-15 on pellet from peg 38, leaving Simon Skelton trailing with 109-2. Stuart Belton again fished well, taking 107-13 to the scales.
Jansons are running a 20-peg Winter League for pairs and one for individuals, each of four matches. A deposit is required on booking, on a first-come-first served basis due to limited numbers.

The stretch below Dockholme Lock on the Erewash Canal was used for round four of the Long Eaton Federation Summer League. Measham visitor Dave Callaghan stepped up on last week's second place, with a winning 6-10, which included two tench and a bream taken on worm and caster from peg 47.
Last week's winner, Lee Morley, was second with 6-9 of squatt-caught fish and medium-sized perch, taken on worm, from the first peg below the lock. John Johnson lost three tench at peg 58, and he finished third with 4-8.
The league leaders are Johnson and Pete Allwood on six points, followed by Alan Wright on 12.
Although the river was low and clear, roach were showing at last in the Nottm AA match on the Trent at East Bridgford. Alex Graham, on peg 6 in the bend, fished waggler and caster to catch chub and roach.
Gary Hunter, on peg 14 in the car park area, was second with roach and a 4lb chub on waggler and maggot.
Big fish dominated the KOBRA Open on Lake Two at Dynamite Baits Makins. Shane Sayer (peg A4) once again made superb use of one of his favourite pegs to total 149lb of carp on pellet waggler.
Chris Harrison, on peg A20, took the best weight from the peg for several weeks with 133lb on method feeder, while Mark Griffiths (Ringer's Baits) was third with 126-8 on method feeder from peg B18.
The following day, a thunderstorm, hailstones and heavy rain saw Crater rise by three inches.
But it produced a superb match. Eddie Keene, on peg 13 found carp from the start, and by alternating between margins and open water, method feeder and pole and paste, he caught at a steady rate to put 107-12 on the scales.
Runner-up John Adamson (Kobra Feeders) was fishless at the halfway point on peg 8. But a hectic final two hours produced 21 carp to pole and paste for 81-12. Long Eaton's Dave Kent caught carp, barbel, bream and roach from peg 1 for 70-8.
Richard Kinnersley is the last one to qualify for the £3,000 grand final at Lakeview on August 15. Martin Thackery won the match off Marina 1 with 96-4, but as he had already qualified, Kinnersley went through with 85-12 off Marina 24.
The other match was won by Ben Holmes with a cracking 152-8 off Serpent 10. Kev Kania (Sensas Mansfield) was second with 89lb on Serpent 21.
