TESCO has applied for permission to put up a large wind turbine at its 24-hour store in Long Eaton.

The supermarket giant wants to put up a 10.6-metre-high turbine to reduce energy costs at the store in Waverley Street.

Officials at Erewash Borough Council have recommended that permission be refused as it could become an eyesore. Councillors are due to decide tomorrow (December 17).

“How on earth can something as beautiful as a wind turbine, generating free energy and reminding us of the ticking timebomb of global warning, be considered an eyesore? Long Eaton is hardly a World Heritage Site and its officials should not stand in the way of "green" progress.
I am sure the residents of Radcliffe on Soar would rather look at a wind farm than a coal burning power station!”
