KEIGAN Parker would sacrifice a 20-goal haul in the coming season if it means Mansfield Town win promotion.

The 28-year-old striker has dropped down to the Blue Square Bet Premier from League One Oldham in a bid to get his career back on track.

The former St Johnstone, Blackpool and Huddersfield man believes he can fill the void left by last season's 17-goal top scorer Jake Speight's move to Bradford City.

But after signing a one-year deal at Field Mill, the Scot insists the success of the team is more important than putting himself back in the spotlight.

"I was playing in the Championship a couple of years ago, but sometimes you have to take a step back to take two forward," said Parker.

"I want to be here and do the best I can for myself and the club and hopefully, over the coming weeks, the fans will see what I'm about.

"I think every striker sets himself some kind of goals target. Twenty goals is usual, but I would be happy to get 16 or 17 if the club can get themselves out of this league.

"I don't want to be too selfish – the most important thing is that the team prospers and if I can lay on goals as well as score them, that's all well and good.

"The ambition of the club and the manager was a big attraction – it matches mine."

Parker has played under Simon Grayson and Colin Hendry at Blackpool and Lee Clark at Huddersfield.

He says Stags boss David Holdsworth reminds him of those League managers.

Parker said: "There are definite similarities between the gaffer and some of the others I have worked with.

"He has the same kind of attributes – the drive and the desire to better himself.

"Those are good qualities to have and when a manager believes in you so much, as David does, it plays a big part in you wanting to sign."
