THE Tales of Robin Hood faces possible closure – in as little as 14 days.

Ian Walker, chief executive of the Nottingham tourist attraction on Maid Marian Way, says the rent for the building has gone up.

He said: "We are in acute danger of having to shut down – probably within the next 14 days.

"This will be a great shame for the city of Nottingham as we are the only attraction that is dedicated to the world-famous legend."

The venue, which holds Robin Hood themed banquets, has not taken any deposits for bookings in the new year so no money will be lost.

However landlord Tesco, which the Tales of Robin Hood pays rent to, disputes the rent rise and says it has actually helped the attraction financially in recent times.

Last year about 10,000 people attended the banquets, and Mr Walker says many are overnight visitors to the city.

He added: "We estimate the cost to the city's economy if Tales of Robin Hood closes will be between £1m to £2m per year."

Mr Walker is now appealing to Nottingham City Council and the Sheriff of Nottingham for financial help.

In a bid to muster up support, people can visit The Tales of Robin Hood from this Saturday to Sunday, January 4 for free and sign a petition to the city council to keep the attraction open.

“I just found out about this. I used to come here as a child, and, man, it makes me sad to think of it gone.
Alright, it wasn't the glitziest place in the world - it was no Disneyland - but it had a charm all its own, and it was the only place that told the tales of Robin Hood.
I hope it will come back somehow!
I can still hear the voice of Robert Hardy at the start of the ride: "This is the Greenwood..."”

“I used to work here, and whilst it has the potential to be a brilliant tourist attraction, it desperately needs up-dating. One of the reasons i left was because of fear of something like this happening. It is a shame though, and if it does close down I will be very sad to see it go!”

We should be shrinking the state and reducing taxes and letting the individual grow and flourish, especially in these leen times.

Yeah, because not interfering with the operations of the free financial market worked so well to get us where we are today, after all.”

“I've never been, but it doesn't look a very exciting place to visit. Very depressing in fact. It's in no man's land really, as generally, the only people that walk by are office workers like me. I pass it nearly every day & it never really looks that busy. A shame for the workers if it does close, but tourists deserve better.”
