DESPITE a freezing start to the day, weights were good in Sunday's Open at Lakeview. Andy Searle, on Serpent 25, bagged 43-14 to win. Martin Thackery, on Marina 25, was second with 32lb

The Vets' matches were won by Mansfield's Brian Elliott, with 44-8 on pellet at Stream 18, and Ray Redwood, with 58-7 on pellet at Canal 10.

Martin Thackery topped a 20-pegger on Serpent with 98-5 on peg 20. Andy Searle was a distant second with 18lbs.

The new Canal lake at Hallcroft produced some good nets of fish in a 12-pegger won by Jamie Masson. He fished pole and pellet at peg 7 for 60-1 of carp to 1lb and skimmers to 2lb. Chris Line (Newcastle Arms) was runner-up with 51-12.

Paul Kania made the most of end peg 53 on Bridge outer and caught 32lbs of carp to 5lb on bomb and corn. It was a close thing for second spot. Nick Speed weighed 21-15 at island 23 and Daz Oldham 21-10 at outer 41.

Bites were at a premium in the penultimate winter league match on Moat. Andy Sellars caught a 4lb carp last cast to edge out Brian Sullivan by 3oz.

Jamie Masson took Friday's Tournament League match on Moat with 39lbs. Masson, on island peg 24, fished bomb and corn for carp to 6lb. The following day, Sellars had a comfortable win in the Winter Carp/Silver match on Moat. He fished bomb and corn for 47-9 of carp to 8lb at island 38.

Open matches at Sherwood Forest Farm Park start again on Sunday on Holmedale (draw 9am at the cabin, fishing 10.30- 4pm). Details on 07721316334.

Dave Round (Mansfield Busmen) won a 14-pegger on Sherwood with 6-2 at peg 17. He fished pole and caster over pinkies for roach to 6oz. Second-placed pair Fred Bispham and John Wooff fished the pole on adjacent pegs for 5-1 of small roach, ide and perch.

Despite delaying the start of the match by 30 minutes to break the ice, Holmedale fished reasonably well. Lee Hassett fished pole and double red maggot for roach at peg 32, but his first fish was a 7lb carp. It was followed by two smaller ones and, with a dozen roach to 12oz, he weighed in a total of 24-8.
