Top two through in Super Cup
LONG Eaton Federation and Barnstone, who reached the final last year, came safely through the first round of the AT Super Cup.
Long Eaton pipped Parkside 14pts to 22pts in a dour match on the Erewash Canal at Dockholme. Local knowledge helped Long Eaton to win five out of the eight sections.
Nine of the 16 competitors failed to catch but Pete Allwood, on peg 94, showed the rest how it should be done, with two perch, a chub and two roach for a level 2lbs on red worm and joker.
Single perch made up the frame, with John Eccles just edging out Col Stevens by 8drms. Rob Marlow had more fish than the rest put together but his 24 small roach only weighed in at 4oz!
It was also tough going at Barnstone – finalists last year – with just one carp caught. But the home side racked up six section wins for just ten points, ahead of Trident (19) and Carlton AC (21). Kele Redwood took the individual honours with 10-2 of skimmers off peg 42. Nick West was second with 9-7 of silvers from peg 9.
Mallory Park Fisheries will be staging the sixth annual Ivan Marks Memorial Match on May 22 and 23. The match, on The Glebe Pools and Foundation Lake, is open to all standards.
Anglers need to state their first-choice day to fish.
Defending champion is local angler Rob Wootton who caught a record 325lb last year.
Entry is £20, all of which goes to the Ivan Marks Memorial Fund. There will be optional pools on both days.
Cheques should be made payable to: 'Ivan Marks Memorial Fund' and sent to: Match Catch, 14 The Green, Syston, Leicester, LE7 1HQ
It was again hard going in the Nottingham AA Disabled & 60+ match at Bestwood No.1. John Johnson, on peg 7, fished 12m pole with squatt and pinkie for small roach and skimmers.
Peg 27 on the roadside gave John Pilmore second place with a net of small skimmers on long pole and pinkie.
Another hard overnight frost greeted anglers in the Kobra Affordable open on Phase 1 at Makins.
All anglers had 'liners' throughout the first two hours, but only the top two had more than one carp each.
John Adamson (peg A15) landed three carp on corn fished on straight bomb for 20-6.
Runner-up Eddie Keene caught three carp and a bream on similar tactics from A20.
The following day, Andy Findlay made excellent use of peg 11 on Thames, landing nine carp on long pole and corn for 31lb.
Long Eaton's Dave Kent pushed him close from peg 9 with six carp for 24-8, while Andy Searle made a successful return to the venue with 19lb from peg 17.
Weights picked up in the 72-peg Teams of Three. Mansfield's Kenny Daws, on Snake 17, won with 67-14 of carp on long pole and maggot.
Richard Wade (Mansfield Angling Gold) was second with 51-6 of carp on Reptile 7.
Wade's Mansfield Gold team took an early lead in the series with four points, on weight, from Dynamite Baits Matchman Supplies Gold.
The Golden Peg went again at Lakeview. Steve Haywood took Sunday's Open, weighing 39lb 8oz, mainly pellet and bread punch, off Canal 8.
Andy Searle gave him a run for his money with 38-5.
Wednesday's weights were on the up and Matt Skelton won with 72-1 on pellet.
Dave Sewell took the vets' match for the second week running, bagging 57-8.
Brian Elliott won the Thursday Open at Peacock Lake – pipping venue owner Carl Gibbs by 13oz.
Gibbs, on peg 23, had a clear lead until Elliott, at the next peg, switched to maggot down the track.
He landed a 10lb carp first chuck and followed up with a 12lb beauty, which boosted his weight to 27-13.
Retford's Ian Temple won the veterans' match at Hallcroft with 40-10 of carp to over 9lbs on bomb and hair-rigged corn and expander pellet on the pole.
Dick Clegg took second with 24-8 of skimmers on pellet and maggot at outer 19.
Only ten turned out in cold, blustery conditions for Friday's match on Bridge. Daz Oldham opted to fish a feeder and it paid off with 37-5 of carp.
Brian Sullivan took the close second spot with 20-8, boosted by a big carp at Outer 12.
Oldham made it two wins in two matches with 34-6 of skimmers in the Winter Carp/Silver League fixture on Moat Island. Mansfield's Steve Clark was second with 32-7 of carp and silvers on maggot at peg 37.
There was a big turn-out of 52 for Sunday's Teams of 4 Silverfish League. Bridge out-fished Moat with the top three weights.
