IF the daily commute gets you down, take inspiration from Alix Guillard, who is travelling 600 miles once a week for a day's study in Nottingham.

Alix, who is French, works in Dutch capital Amsterdam as a webmaster for internet registry Ripe NCC.

His employers decided he would benefit from additional training – at Castle College, Beeston.

Alix a said: "The course was just what I was looking for. There was nothing appropriate in Europe and the only other option was in the USA which is a bit too far to commute."

The social media in web marketing course runs for five weeks at the college's Axis Centre in Middle Street.

Tutor Caron Lyon said: "We are delighted that Alix has joined us.

"He adds an international dimension to our discussions and certainly takes the award for determination."

The Axis centre offers opportunities for individuals as well as small and medium sized businesses to use new digital technologies.
