A CYCLIST was punched and kicked to the ground by a machete-wielding man in a shocking road rage attack.

Mark Horsley feared for his life during the attack in Wigman Road, Bilborough, at 12.15pm on Wednesday.

The 38-year-old, from Strelley, said: "He was kicking and punching me and lifting the machete up over my head and threatening me with it."

Mr Horsley said his attacker was a passenger in a blue Ford Focus car he had accidentally kicked as he cycled close to a traffic island in Aspley Lane.

The car overtook him moments later and pulled in front of him.

"The man who attacked me got out and he looked furious.

"I knew I was in trouble if I stopped so I cycled on. I went over a park and I eventually came out by Harvey Hadden Stadium. Then the same car appeared again and pulled in front of me.

"The same man got out, shouted at me and then went to the boot of the car and produced a machete.

"I tried to cycle away but he was on me too quickly."

Mr Horsley said the car drove off during the assault and his attacker eventually ran off.

"A group of workmen, some local residents and two nurses, who stopped in their car, saw what had happened to me," said the Castle College student.

"I asked them which direction the man had run off in and the workmen said Glaisdale Drive East. I tried to dial 999 on my mobile as I wanted to try to give police the number plate of the Ford Focus but I couldn't get a signal."

Mr Horsley was treated at the Queen's Medical Centre for cuts to his lips and badly bruised ribs.

His attacker was white, in his late teens to early 20s, 5ft 7in, with short dark hair.

The driver of the car was a dark-haired woman in her late teens to early 20s.

A police spokeswoman said the force had received "quite a few calls" about the attack.

She added: "We are in the process of speaking in more detail to the victim and are gathering witness statements."

“ive just been sat here at work reading all these comments and i can see it from quite a few peoples ponts of view i do think that it wasnt as straight cut as this gentleman was attacked out of the blue he obviously got angry himself and kicked the car and this time kicked the wrong car but if maybe if the car he would have kicked was a decent person like a few people on here i probably would of hurled abit of abuse and drove off but thats the risk of loosing your temper with young people in nottingham these days
i wish him all the look and hope he has a speedy recovery and that the attacker is caught and prosecuted”

“I'm A Motor Biker and a Car Driver and have been most of my life .Whilst riding my good Old 1954 BSA A7 I have had to on many occasion push my self away (using my boot) from cars that have come straight out of filter lanes and side roads. I have never intentionaly kicked out to cause damage. I've just ensured that a good push keeps my me and my bike away from disaster and not finishing up under the car.
As ive said i drive a car as well as ride a bike and its my opinion and experience that when a car and bike is involved in an accident its mostly the car drivers fault because they didnt see the bike, even with the head light on full .
Bikes or smaller and harder to see and bikers are more vulnerable.
So car drivers everywhere think bike , your dinner will keep warm until you get home, a dead biker wont .”
