STEVE Cotterill today praised Adlene Guedioura for the 'heart and soul' he has put into playing for Nottingham Forest since joining on loan from Wolves – and predicted those are the qualities the Reds require if they are to win their fight to pull clear of the bottom three.

The Reds boss has been impressed with the Algerian in the three matches he has played since arriving at the City Ground, And he saw the midfielder come close to snatching a spectacular equaliser at Middlesbrough, when Guedioura hammered a 30-yard rocket against the bar.

But, with the 2-1 defeat leaving Forest six points from safety – and just a point ahead of bottom club Doncaster – Cotterill knows his side's form needs to change quickly following a run of one win in their last 13 outings.

"Guedioura came close to getting an equaliser with a spectacular effort and we all know he can do that," said Cotterill.

"He has come in and put his heart and soul into things, which is very important at this moment in time.

"It is vital to have your heart and soul in this battle, because it is the only way we will get out of this.

"We have created enough chances to have won the game and we have to take them. There is no beating around the bush, we have to be brave."

Cotterill hopes top scorer Marcus Tudgay will return from illness this weekend to face third-from-bottom Coventry City at the City Ground in what has become a vital relegation clash.

"He was still poorly and we have not been able to have him around the squad in case he passes anything on," said Cotterill.

"But hopefully he will be back later this week in time to play a part this weekend.

"He has been ill in our last two games and he has arguably been our most consistent striker.

"He is certainly our top scorer, so I don't know what else I can do. It is very difficult to get somebody in on loan who is going to drop into the team and score goals.

"We've got a few games to go, so let's not start talking down that road (relegation) yet.

"We have enough games to go and have to make sure we pick up enough points.

"It probably piles some extra importance on Saturday now, yes – but they are all important games.

"I won't prepare any differently for the game than I did for last Saturday."

“First three games in March are: Barnsley, Doncaster, Millwall. Let's see how we get on there before getting carried away.

Performance was so much better when Blackstock and Findley came on at half-time. Hope Cotterill learnt something from that. Blackstock has to start with either Tudgay or Findley.

McCleary was fantastic and an amazing individual goal yet again. With him on the right and Reid on the left it gives us good width and balance. Please, please, please stick with that sort of team Steve. Scrap this formation flooded with defenders, especially at home.”

“i still think hes clueless but fair play to Cotterill for changing at half time (totally bemusing starting formation, tactics, personnel). Massive win.... MASSIVE WIN!

My heart has stopped pounding for the first time today.... The SEASON STARTS HERE!

P.S Their goalkeeper stopped it being a very realistic 4-0 (at least)”

    “UKcitizen62...........

"Frank Clarke not a good Manager?"

As Much as i love BC, it was him that made mistakes and took us down, which he openly admitted.
Frank assembled a good team to take us back to the prem. It was BC that bottled out of signing Collymore if i remember. We were at the Dell one night when news filtered through that we had signed the big- man only to have that qaushed by Brian Himself.
When Frank took over , one of his first signings was Collymore, followed by the likes of Colin Cooper from Millwall and one or 2 others that followed.
The side that got Forest back into the Prem in the 94/5 season was assembled by FRANK CLARKE.....So, please dont rubbish the man who gave and played great entertaining football in that period. Our defence was great and we scored loads of goals in a truely well balanced side. ...
OH FOR THOSE DAYS AGAIN...........memories anyone??????”

“Why don't you employ Mike Basset as manager for the rest of the season?

Don't waste your money seeing Florist lose tomorrow. Go to the bookshelf and get the A-Z out you bought three years ago for Yeovil and Exeter ready for next season.”
