FORMER Mansfield Town striker Jake Speight has been jailed after admitting assault charges.

The player recently joined Bradford City from the Stags for £25,000 – and both clubs knew nothing of his impending court appearance when the deal went through.

Bantams manager Peter Taylor was first made aware of the situation on Friday morning when contacted by the 25-year-old striker's agent.

Speight was sent to prison for 12 weeks after pleading guilty to all charges for an incident dating back to February, but could be released after six.

He will definitely miss Bradford's first game of the season against Shrewsbury.
