The Funhouse Comedy Stage was situated right next to the Left Lion Stage with the two stages alternating sets. This meant that each comedy act got the same amount of time regardless of stature. Compere Chris Cairns did a pretty good job of holding proceedings together though the lack of organisation meant that he was largely encouraging people to move nearer the stage.

First up was young comic Jim Smallman, who was confident enough but his act seemed to be mainly based around insulting Heanor and its population. Funny but perhaps a little too abrasive.

Next up was Sully O'Sullivan, a comedian hailing from New Zealand. Extremely sardonic and too vulgar for a family audience - but despite the inappropriateness of some of the material, the set based around cultural differences was pretty funny.

Janice Phayre was the next comic and for me, she was hard work. A nice enough Irish lady, she just tried too hard and if O'Sullivan's language was too much for a family audience, then Phayre's set revolving almost entirely around sex was way over the line - but it seemed appropriate material for a woman who was clearly trying too hard. I won't even talk about the knitted costume in a family publication!

Penultimate act was Gary Delaney. His set of clever one liners, material reminiscent of Steven Wright, was very good and the short jokes allowed the set to feel much longer than it was. There was something missing in the delivery which may have added to the impact of the material, but he was still probably the best act on the day.

Finally, headline act was Simon Bligh. A decent set of observational comedy was quite well delivered but with the headline act having the same length of set as the other acts, it seemed a little short, but on a day punctuated with heavy showers, all the acts did well to raise the spirits on a pretty damp day.
