There is a 60-70 per cent probability of cold temperatures, icy conditions and or snow in the region this week, the Met Office says.

The snow and ice weather warnings issued by the Met Office urge people to take extra care when walking, cycling or driving in affected areas, as there are likely to be widespread icy stretches on untreated roads and pavements.

Most road networks should be open but journeys through affected areas may take longer than usual, the Met Office warns.

The AA advises motorists driving in snowy and icy conditions to factor in greater stopping distances, which are 10 times longer in ice and snow. Gentle manoeuvres are vital.

If the car starts to slide, steer into the skid and keep your feet off the brake and throttle until the vehicle is back under control.

Nottingham could see sleet showers throughout the afternoon today, from around midday until 6pm. This will most likely be followed by heavy showers until around 9pm.

Temperatures could feel as low as -3C today, amid wind gusts of up to 33mph.

Both Tuesday night and Wednesday should be cold, cloudy and windy, with gusts of between 26 and 39mph. Light rain showers are forecast on Wednesday morning, from around 9am until midday.

Thursday will get off to a clear but chilly start, with temperatures feeling as low as -5C. The mercury should rise as the day goes on, however - Nottingham could see sunshine between 9am and 3pm, and temperatures could feel as warm as 1C. No wind gusts are forecast.

The Friday forecast is dry and cloudy, with no wind gusts. Saturday is set to be cloudy with sunny intervals, and temperatures could feel as high as 2C. No wind gusts are expected, the Met Office says.
