A PLANNED skate park for Bestwood Estate and Top Valley will bring down boundaries between youngsters in the two areas, it is hoped.

Plans have been submitted to Nottingham City Council for South Glades Skate Park to be built on Southglade Park, which stands between the two estates.

It is hoped the park, which will cost up to £170,000, will enable youngsters from the estates to mix together without rivalries.

Bestwood resident Pat Chambers, 69, a long-standing community campaigner, said: "If it goes through it will be a great thing.

"We have had so many complaints in the past from kids, that there is nothing for them to do.

"Boundaries do exist between different areas and to put something like this between them is good because it brings children from two areas together."

The 60-metre long park will be situated at the northern part of Southglade Park, off Southglade Road.

It will have a 'half-pipe' up to four metres high and there will also be a dip and several ramps which skaters can ride over.

Angela Walker, chairwoman of Bestwood Estate's new tenants' and residents' group, said: "I am all for it. It is a good idea, as long as it gets kids off the roads.

"It will give them some- thing to do – and that's what kids are always complaining about."

Bestwood councillor Brian Grocock said the council wanted the park to help youngsters from the two estates mix.

It should be open by March 2009.

He said: "I am really enthused about it. It will give kids a great deal to do.

"I am sure there will be a number of children that will think it's marvellous."
