STRYCHNINE and cyanide have been ruled out as possible causes of the death and illness of dogs who walked in Sherwood Forest.

Results of the first set of tests carried out on these chemical poisons have come back negative.

Further tests are now being carried out to identify any less commonly-occurring chemicals.

Natural England continues to believe that the poison is naturally occurring, such as a disease carried by ticks or mites.

No further reports have been received of dogs falling ill or dying after visiting the area over the past week. A total of four dogs died and 14 fell ill after visiting the forest since late September.

“My dog was one of the ones who was ill after walking in the forest and it is not funny seeing a daily companion vomiting blood and so near death wether it be 4 or 2 legged!”

“What a pathectic and sad individual 'Stan the Loser' is. Why dont you grow up mate and take into account that to alot of people dogs are companions and seen as members of the family, to walk your dog and lose it due to something like this would be horrible, and its complete low life losers like you who make comments about it without any regard for others. What a stupid stupid toby”

“My dog once ate his own faeces. Do you think this may have something to do with it?

Is one dog infecting another this way?

Please dont let your dog lick your face until this is cleared up.

Also please don't feed your dog chicken bones they pose a great risk.”

    “Mel, this is no joke.

Several dogs have died, meaning several owners and families have been devestated.

    Have some heart!

The main concern should be finding what happened and trying to prevent it happening again.”

“Check for Glyphosate ("Roundup") it is supposed to be safe for animals but some are badly affected.”
