Sharphill protestors "baffled" by Highway's Agency decision
RESIDENTS say they are baffled by the Highway Agency's decision to withdraw their objections to building 1,200 homes at Sharphill, Edwalton.
The agency has resolved its concerns over traffic congestion at the Wheatcroft and Nottingham Knight roundabouts and this agreement, made with developers, will be announced later todayor tomorrow.

Protestors outside West Bridgford community hall
Speaking at the public inquiry held at West Bridgford Community Hall this morning, William Buxton, of Landmere Lane, said: "We are now expected to accept the appellant's ascertation that approximately 10,000 additional traffic movements per day generated by Sharphill will not add to the general traffic congestion.
"This is unacceptable and both Rushcliffe Borough Council and local residents should demand convincing proof and guarantees of 'nil-detriment' as a condition of any planning consent."
Councillor Rod Jones, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Musters Wards, said the plans are premature and should not go ahead until Rushcliffe has completed its plans for future housing.
Rushcliffe Borough Council is currently working on a local development framework, which will not be ready until 2012.
This afternoon the inquiry continues, and the case for the appellants - led by David Wilson Homes - will be heard.
A revised draft of the Section 106 agreement, which is designed to make the scheme more attractive to councils and has been agreed by Notts County Council, Rushcliffe Borough Council and the appellant, will also be discussed.

“Just my sentiments exactly, a back hander or a sweetener. Why would the Highways Agency withdraw their objections otherwise, because no way can 10,000 + extra cars on the road around Edwalton be approved by anyone except perhaps someone with half a brain. By the way what is "affordable housing" as no one at the moment can afford anything!!!!”

“Withdrawn their objections? Sounds like a backhander is involved somewhere along the line.”
