Sharphill Woods inquiry begins
THREE of Rushcliffe Borough Council's reasons for refusing plans to build a 1,200-home development at Sharphill, Edwalton, have been withdrawn.
At the start of a public inquiry to hear an appeal against the refusal, Inspector John Gray was told only ten reasons remained.

A total of 160 seats were available for members of the public at West Bridgford Community Hall, and all were taken as the inquiry got underway at 10am today.
The inquiry also heard the Highways Agency could "shortly" be in a position to withdraw its objection if it can reach agreements on mitigation measures with the appellants David Wilson Homes and Mr Brian Wells.
Concerns remain about building such a large development on green belt land, in advance of a new Local Development Framework, due in 2012.

“I bet the Council are now thinking that losing a few fields is a small price to pay for getting an extra 1,200 houses each paying council tax.
That will help to plug the deficit in the gold plated public authority final salary pension scheme.”

“Why the hell do we need more houses! Half of the ones already built aren't being lived in! more and more are being repossessed every minute. The last thing we should be doing is destoying more of the very little green land with have left in the small country. Soon the population will start to dwindle and all this beautiful land will have been destroyed for nothing, it's already been established that now we have more pensioners than under 16s in this country, use your common sense!”

“What part of NO do they not understand.
They will get their way I'm afraid.
A few less houses as a sop and a bit of landscaping on the approaches and it's a done deal!”
