The Met Office website said: "Outbreaks of rain and sleet will be clearing southwards on Tuesday night and early Wednesday, leaving surfaces wet and prone to freezing as skies clear and temperatures fall. "There is also a chance that precipitation could turn to snow locally, this most likely over hills, where a slight cover is possible locally.
"The public should be aware of the potential for increased iciness, especially early on Wednesday, and possible disruption to travel."
A cold weather alert has also been issued for the region, which warns care providers and those who look after vulnerable people to ready themselves for action if the cold snap lasts any longer.

“The Post can exclusively reveal that it will get dark tonight.
Evidence from the last 4.1/2 billion years confirms this.
Its as clear as night follows day scientists say.”
