WEIGHTS were impressive in the Veterans Open on Moat at Hallcroft, with Andy Sellars just one fish short of the magic ton.

Sellars fished bomb, corn and luncheon meat to the middle of Outer 98, taking 96-10 of carp to 10lbs. He also picked up the bonus of the Golden Peg, which added £100 to his winnings.

Mill Tackle ace Russ Dowding took second spot with 77-8 of carp, taken on banded pellet and a small groundbait feeder fished to the middle of Outer 101.

Dave Sewell (James Maude Linden AC) fished pole, pellet and corn to the reeds at Island 2 for 53-4. It was made up of silvers and a bonus carp.

Sixteen braved the arctic conditions on Moat on Saturday, fishing holes in the ice. Martin McIntyre won with 13-5 of carp and skimmers caught on bomb and maggot fished to the middle of Outer 86.

Geoff Wilde weighed 11-12 on bomb and hair-rigged meat fished up to the ice at Island 16, while Notts ace Don Slaymaker took 8-12 on long pole with pinkies and bloodworm at Outer 20.

Consistent John Cooke chalked up another win in the veterans' match at a chilly Lakeview.

He weighed an impressive 56lb at Marina 3, catching carp to 6lb on bread punch and maggot. Keith Daws was runner-up with 16lb of skimmers and carp, on pole and maggot at Serpent 9.

Another regular, Dave Sewell took third with 13-8, on bread punch, at Serpent 23.
