Scriven calls time on his long career
MANSFIELD'S Matt Scriven has finally called time on his career after 100 pro fights.
Scriven, who last won in October 2009 when he stopped Nottingham's Terry Maughan, finishes with a 14(2)-84(20)-1-1 record.
"I'm not boxing again," he said. "I rushed the last five or so fights through to reach 100, because I knew I was going back to work in Iraq.
"I've been out of touch these last few years with working overseas.
"But I'm busy with the gym and looking forward to getting back into the boxing."
Scriven is planning a show at Mansfield Civic Centre on March 31. He also hopes to stage a show at Mansfield Town Football Club.
Meanwhile, Jason Booth's WBC International super-bantamweight title fight with Kid Galahad will be shown live, on Channel 5, on February 18.
Booth and Galahad clash at the Magna Centre, in Rotherham, for the title, which has been previously held by legends like Manny Pacquiao and Naseem Hamed.
Galahad, unbeaten in ten fights, was born in Doha, but boxes out of Sheffield.
Galahad said "It's an honour to be fighting for the prestigious title and I will look to emulate what Naseem and Manny have done.
"Jason Booth is an experienced operator, who has fought consistently at British and European title level for most of his career,
"But come February 18 the millions of fight fans watching me live on Channel 5 will know who Kid Galahad is and that I'm the next major star to come out of Sheffield."
Gedling's Leigh Wood is on the undercard. He is set for his third pro fight against Mansfield journeyman Pavels Senkovs.
Stable-mate Adnan Amar is also training hard ahead of his British welterweight title fight with Lee Purdy, in Sheffield, on March 17.
Bulwell's Shane McPhilbin will defend his British cruiserweight title against former World and European champion Enzo Maccarinelli in Wolverhampton on March 14.
"It is not the fight we wanted," admitted trainer Kevin Sheehan. "Tony Conquest deserved his shot but it's not to be.
"Maccarinelli is a big hitter, but Shane isn't scared of him. After all, he has been in with bigger lads than him, Tyson Fury for instance, and done ok in the past.
"He hasn't done any sparring yet, but he has plenty of time to get fit for this one."
Alftreton-based Ovill McKenzie successfully defended his Commonwealth light-heavyweight title when he stopped Tony Dodson in the 3rd round in Manchester.
Scott Quigg got off the floor to stop Jamie Arthur on a cut in the 8th round of the British super-bantamweight title fight in Bolton.
Rendall Munroe stopped Jose Saez in the first round, but Nottingham's Barrington Brown lost on points to James Dicken.
