Scouts from Czech Republic visit Newark for two week exchange
SCOUTS from the Czech Republic are visiting Newark Scouts as part of an exchange programme.
The 40 scouts from Kolin have set up camp in the grounds of Kelham Hall for two weeks following a visit by 30 Newark Scouts to Kolin last year.
They will go to a roller disco in Southwell, take part in water activities in Farndon and go sightseeing in Newark.
Matt Rooney, from Nottinghamshire Scouts, said: "This event clearly shows the Newark and Czech Scouts commitment to making the world a better place; by celebrating cultures and ideas they are showing the world that it is possible for people from different countries to get along and learn from each other."
Richard Moyses, from Newark Scouts, said: "We are really proud of where we come from and we are so pleased that we are able to show our Czech counterparts all of the places and things that make our community so special."
Newark and Sherwood District Council as well as volunteers have helped plan the two-week stay.
Michal Safra, 18, a scout from the Czech Republic said: "This is my second time in the UK and I enjoy it very much, I have made lots of new friends."
