ILKESTON FC are already making plans for next season by announcing dates when potential Academy scholars will have the chance to convince Kevin Wilson and Darren Caskey that they should have a future at the New Manor Ground.

April 8, 9 and 11 have been set aside as Scholar Recruitment Days and applications are being invited from talented youngsters in the 16-19 age range who are interested in joining the Robins' youth programme.

The Academy programme includes a structured mix of football and full-time education – run by SR Education – over a two-year period and has rapidly earned a reputation as one of the most professionally-run schemes within non-league football.

Manager Kevin Wilson said: "We will have vacancies for up to 25 lads to join the programme on July 10 and if anyone is interested they should apply for a trial place in April.

"The object of the exercise is to raise the standard of the intake every year.

"We achieved that this season by recruiting from further afield – from Guernsey to Grimsby – and although it doesn't necessarily follow that the new scholars will come from outside the area, they will have to show good potential."

Those invited to the Recruitment Days in April will take part in a training session and do technical work in the morning – then play in a trial match in the afternoon.

Anyone interested in taking part should apply by email to: k.wilson@ilkestonfc.co.uk.

Ilkeston's Derbyshire Senior Cup clash with Heanor Town was predictably been called off because of the snow.

The plan is to try again at the New Manor Ground on Monday, January 28.
