Robin Hood boarded up ahead of city rallies
THE Robin Hood statue has been boarded up ahead of Saturday's protests in the city.
The council say they blocked in the outlaw, outside the Castle, as a precaution against any damage.

Robin has been boarded up
A large number of people are expected to gather there for the English Defence League (EDL) protest, said a council spokesman.
"It's a statue that has been damaged before and there is the potential there with that amount of people gathering," he said.
"What we are hoping and expecting is a peaceful protest. It is just a precaution to ensure that the Robin Hood statue doesn't get damaged."
He confirmed that no other statues in the city have been protected in this way in preparation for Saturday.
The Robin Hood statue has suffered various types of vandalism in the past, including having his bow snapped off in March.
Bob White, chairman of the Worldwide Robin Hood Society, said: "I think it is a necessary caution. But obviously it is a bit disappointing for people who have come to see the statue.
"The statue is such an icon. Long after the protest, the statue will still be there."
The EDL protest is one of three planned protests due to take place in the city tomorrow. Unite Against Fascism (UAF) have advertised a protest from 10am in Old Market Square against the EDL, and a third rally is to be staged by Nottinghamshire Stop the BNP.
Hundreds of police officers from across the East Midlands have been drafted in to deal with the protests.

“"The bottom line is that Muslims treat their women as second class citizens. We are acivilised nation and do not want your sexist and masoginist religion here."
Steve, why pick on Islam?
I quote from Paul in the bible:
"Women should remain silent in the churches.
They are not allowed to speek, but must be in submission.
...
For it is disgraceful for a woman to speek in the church."
In other words, to me Christianity seems to be just as harsh to women as anyone else. So be careful before bringing that in to it.
"I would just like to say im fed up with everyone saying the UAF have hijacked this day, it was the EDL who moved the date to coincide with the midlands football derby and the mercians return (sorry but facts are facts)"
Yes, that is a fact.
You say they moved it? When was it going to happen to start with?
As for:
"@Mr Sensible, there have been no violent demonstrations by the EDL, they have defended themselves when attacked by the UAF who broke through a Police cordon and it was UAF members that were arrested, do check your facts."
Caz there is video evidence on Youtube of EDL members shouting anti-Islamic slogans. Is that provocative, or is that provocative?
And it might be legal to protest, but you have to do so in accordence with certain rules.
And I ask again, what gives these people the right to shut our City Centre down, on one of the busiest days for retailers, so they can do this?
And, it may have been agreed with the police, but the proposal to protest on that day was iniciated by the EDL, and, if they didn't choose this day to coincide with the soldiers, why did they?
And as for:
"Sorry, don't read the Guardian so haven't read those reports."
Sorry; I was only quoting someone else's "evidence" they gave before from there to back something up.”

“Steve, I don't think you know much world history. There were advanced civilisations in many of the countries that you refer to as 'third world' when Britons were still running around in animal skins. Civilisations rise and fall, but many of the early civilisations were Moslem.
By the way, although polygamy is illegal in Canada, some Mormon sects still practrice it in southeastern British Columbia, and the government seems reluctant to prosecute, although there have been a few half-hearted attempts in recent years.”

"the UAF will be proudly peacefully protesting against the EDL "
aww, why did you hijack their hijack ? are you still fed up ?
why cant you have a protest on your own ?
is it really fair that others do all the hard work of arranging protests only for you to come in at the last moment with an anti protest ?
i suggest that you try and organise a brewery with a pees up,”
