A RARE chance to own a piece of the River Trent is up for grabs next year.

A stretch of the river at Fiskerton, near Southwell, is going under the hammer alongside a former warehouse and granary.

The lot has a guide price of £300,000 and is being sold through Nottingham agent heb.

Matt Dillon, head of the firm's auctions department, said: "It's not often someone has the opportunity to buy part of the River Trent and we think it will attract a lot of bids."

Mr Dillon said he had drawn on his experience of unusual lots to come up with the guide price, but it would be left to the market to decide at auction.

He added: "It's not every day we get a piece of the River Trent to sell – as well as boating and fishing rights included.

"Places to moor are in demand."

The lot includes fishing rights and mooring points at Fiskerton Wharf.

The new owners would technically own a 200ft stretch of waterfront and halfway across the river under riparian rights covering waterway ownership.

British Waterways' permission is needed before boats can be moored – to stop problems such as people blocking up the river with boats.

Mr Dillon added: "There's history at the site too as it used to be a warehouse and granary."

The building has been part-converted into a residential dwelling, office and warehouse.

It is part of an estate being sold relating to a will.

Early this year another piece of the Trent under Clifton Bridge, with a guide price of £270,000, was bought by the University of Nottingham.

The lot will go under the hammer on February 16 at Nottingham Belfry Hotel, Mellors Way.
