THE halcyon days of Gang Show legend Ralph Reader may be long gone but the rich legacy left behind by the Scouting hero has inspired his successors to go on to scale new heights.

This, the 53rd Gang Show at Nottingham's premier venue, is a triumph of teamwork, with co-directors Jock Shaw and Annabel Alton and musical directors Matt Hicken and James Tate leading the way to another admirable success.

While the Herculean efforts of more than 300 adult helpers backstage and front of house is to be admired, it is the talents of the 200 performers which makes this glorious Gang Show 2009 a unique spectacle.

Cubs and Brownies set the standards with a delightful Carnaby Street tribute, while the Seniors scored a sweet success with Candy Scrumptious.

Senior performers Steve Cumberland and Sally Pickard made their marks with a brilliant interpretation of Master of the House (Les Miserables) while rising stars Georgina Wood and Anna Cupit shone in an Oliver medley.

Song and dance numbers featuring Morris Men, and Knights of the Round Table showed contrasting costume changes, while an Enchanted Musicals sequence was a highlight with teenagers Olivia Staley,Jade Raynor and Poppy Johnson, among others, making impressive contributions.

If one act stands out, it is a two-minute gem entitled Three of a Kind featuring Daniel Dore as a cheeky Brownie (rejected by the Cubs) who has the audience in fits with his hilarious one-liners.

This dynamic show ends in traditional fashion with a sparkling Crest of the Wave finale, showing that the Scouts and Guiding flame burns brighter than ever. The show runs until Saturday.
