Review: Dancing on Ice, Nottingham Trent FM Arena
IT is the third time Torvill and Dean have brought their Dancing on Ice show to Nottingham but this year was extra special.
Marking 25 years since their Olympic victory, this was billed as The Bolero Tour and it did not disappoint.
-

After an amazing opening sequence featuring all the professional skaters decked out like they were at a masked ball, Jayne and Chris appeared from behind a curtain in the centre of the floor.
Launching straight in to their gold medal-winning routine they got the first standing ovation of the night.
From there it was down to meeting the judges and the celebrities.
The line-up featured this year's champion Ray Quinn and runner-up Jessica Taylor, along with previous champions Suzanne Shaw and Kieran Bracken.
Other familiar faces included Roxanne Pallet, Melinda Messenger and, arguably, the star of this year's series Todd Carty.
Whizzing through their routines they were scored by the Ice Panel, the Evening Post's Simon Wilson helping hapless Todd to his highest score ever! Sadly, there was no sign of 'evil' judge Jason Gardiner, meaning Ruthie Henshall was the target of most of the audience's pantomime booing.
After the interval the crowd were treated to a series of spectacular routines from the professionals.
As with the TV show, the tour ended with two celebrities performing the Bolero in a skate-off and last night saw Quinn walk away with the title of champion once again.
It may be cheesy, it may be predictable, but the audience loved it, and gave Torvill and Dean a welcome home of which they can be very proud.

“T and D were amazing. Bolero was as good as 25 years ago. It almost seemed effortless for them. The whole show was exciting, fun and thoroughly enjoyable. I agree with the comments made about Simon Wilson, he was hardly an example of Nottingham folk, and his smutty comments were totally unacceptable in a family atmosphere. He should be ashamed of himself and be appologising.”

“Saw the Tuesday evening show with my wife and we both enjoyed it immensely. The only thing which spoiled the evening was Simon Wilson, the guest judge from the Post. He was unshaven, chewed most of the time and looked like he had slept rough in the clothes he was wearing. This was in stark comparison to everything else about the show, which was professionally and immaculately presently, as were the other judges and all the performers. Mr Wilson was a very poor ambassador for the Evening Post”

“I shall always have a special memory of Torvill and Dean as my late father was Dean's boss when he was on the police force and often talked about him bringing his skates to work”
