Review: Bastille, Rock City
SNOW was falling as we left a sold-out Rock City, but we had just witnessed the first taste of summer thanks to London-based band Bastille.
They came on stage to a Twin Peaks soundtrack and launched straight into Bad Blood, title track from their No. 1 album.
This set the mood for the evening, bringing slow build-ups to triumphant climaxes that had the packed floor moving as one.
The crowd were out for a good night and Bastille delivered one. Fuelled by perhaps one too many Jagerbombs, the young scenesters jabbed their hands in the air, sang back every note and hung on every word charismatic lead singer Dan Smith delivered throughout the night.

He never missed a beat or note as he moved relentlessly around the stage and induced screams of hysteria from the female members of the audience.
Highlights included Icarus, Things We Lost In The Fire, a euphoric performance of Pompeii, that saw support act To Kill A King return to the stage and sing the signature backing vocals, and a surprise cover of DeBarge's 80s hit Rhythm Of The Night, complete with purple laser show.
The band were clearly enjoying themselves, and fed off the energy of the audience.
Smith kept the chat short and sweet, being "too awkward" to deliver much more than a thanks to one of the biggest crowds he and the band have played to.
The evening came to a close with Flaws. Not content to stand on stage, Smith decided to meet and greet the entire crowd of Rock City and sang the song from the balcony before he ended up in the DJ booth where he wished everyone goodnight. The crowd sent the band off to thunderous applause before heading back out into the snowy March night.
