RUSHCLIFFE Borough Council is urging residents not to wait until the General Election date has been announced before registering their vote.

The council's elections manager, Jeff Saxby, said: "The time between the election date being announced and the last chance to register to vote can be a matter of a few days.

"If you are not on the electoral register, you won't be able to vote."

Registering to vote only takes a few minutes.

Print off a form from the Electoral Commission website www.aboutmyvote.co.uk, the independent elections watchdog, or call Rushcliffe Borough Council on 0115 981 9911 for an application form.
