THE influx of new stockies produced instant dividends at Peacock Lake as Ray Redwood smashed the six-hour record with a staggering 173lbs 10oz.

Redwood defied the freezing cold, catching 30 carp in the last hour alone, on pellet at peg 16.

Steve Nattrass had to settle for second with 161-14, after running out of feed pellets at peg 12.

Nottingham AA went through in the Angling Times SuperCup at Kodak Lakes. They totalled 13 points on their home water, to see off Bottesford AC (16pts) and Radcliffe-on-Trent (22pts).

A severe overnight frost slowed sport dramatically with the top weights coming from Fountain Lake.

John Brockway, on peg 7, fished pinkie on whip to for 5-15 of gudgeon, roach and skimmers on chopped worm to win.

Ian Veasey, on peg 5, took second with 5lbs of gudgeon on whip and pinkie.

Shaun Butler, on peg 8, was third with 4-13 of gudgeon on the same tactics.

The practice match for next Saturday's Erewash Valley Winter League, saw a welcome return to some kind of form for the Erewash canal.

The average weight across the 15 competitors was in excess of 4lb 8oz, with good quality roach and perch and even an unseasonal tench being caught.

Rob Parker had a busy day on peg 107, catching on a variety of methods with the majority of his winning catch, of 8-3, falling to bloodworm and joker tactics.

This proved to be the hot area, with similar catches of 6-10 and 6-2 giving second and fourth places to Pete Hunt (105) and Alistair Chisholme (103) respectively.

At the other end of the Trent Lock match length, on peg 124, young Ryan Miller broke into the prize list with 6-6, which included some excellent quality roach, on bloodworm.

Lane's Bait and Tackle star Wayne Sharman was a clear winner of the Kobra Open (fished on Lake 2 at Dynamite Baits Makins).

Sharman, pegged on A20, won with 78lb 12oz. He caught ten carp, five of them doubles, on corn and bomb.

But the highlight was the 51-14 of bream caught by runner-up Eddie Keene

Keene, on B16, started on a small feeder and caught nothing in two hours. But a switch to waggler and dead maggot produced bream to 2lb, along with a lone perch.

Hinckley's Albert Bray was third with four carp for 23-2 on bread.

The following day's match on Crater was won by Long Eaton's Dave Kent with 17-2. The bitterly-cold East wind ruined sport and only three competitors landed carp. Kent (peg 14) landed five on corn from his left margin, plus a single skimmer.

He reversed the previous week's result by pushing Andy Findlay (peg 1) into second with a single carp and a few roach for 8-10. Shaun Claire, on peg 4, also landed a carp in his 6-2.
