Rare sightings of European birds in Nottingham
RARE sightings have been made in Nottingham of a bird which normally breeds on the continent.
More than 45 Bohemian waxwings were spotted feeding on berries at the top of Beckside near Lings Bar Hospital, Gamston, on December 18. The same day another five were spotted opposite a petrol station in Hucknall Road, Carrington.
The bird, which is about the size of a starling, occasionally migrates to Britain when winter rowan berry crops fail in northern European.

“The fact that the twitchers decide to take up residence on my driveway when the birds are on my garage roof eating the berries is quite annoying considering I work nights, but the fact that such a simple hobby brings people such happiness is great to see!”

“A lot of twitchers were outside the cornmill pub in Chilwell yesterday looking at birds up a tree in the carpark. do not know which breed they were.”
