MANSFIELD Town's home match against promotion-chasing Luton Town tonight has been called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Local Football League referee Russell Booth came to inspect the playing surface this morning and deemed it unplayable.

"The standing water comes above your boots as you enter the field of play," he said.

"Rain is forecast all day and the pitch will not improve in time for tonight's match.

"It is only fair on Luton Town to make a decision this early, as they are set to depart at 9.30am.

The club are to announce the date for the re-arranged game as soon as it is decided.

“Can't understand for the life of me why this game was called off? I can smell a rat somewhere, If Rochdale can play with the amount of rain they had why can't Mansfield?

The BBC were at Field Mill last night doing the weather, Des said it's blowing and dry.”
