CRIME in a South Notts village has fallen by more than a third, figures show.

There were 165 crimes in Radcliffe-on-Trent between January 1 and September 30 this year, compared with 258 over the same period in 2007 – a fall of 36%.

Police have set up a variety of initiatives with the Rushcliffe Crime, Disorder and Reduction Partnership, including Acceptable Behaviour Contracts and test purchase operations at pubs and off-licences, resulting in the eviction of problem tenants.

Inspector Jeff Haywood said: "This reduction is excellent. I hope this sends a clear message to people in Radcliffe that crime and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated."

One notable success was Radcliffe Week of Action, which tackled street drinking and intimidation, criminal damage to cars, dog and housing issues and speeding.

Initiatives included a drop-in centre for residents, a mobile youth project and a drug and alcohol advice centre.

Anyone with concerns about crime in Radcliffe should the local Beat Manager PC Gareth Davies on 0115 940 0999, ext 6171, or 07849 470532.

“While any drop in crime figures is a good thing, i cannot help wondering why this is, is it as a result of concerted efforts, or something else.
How many people have not bothered to report crime as they would become a target for these criminals, how much is due to these initiatives, and how much is due to other factors.
One thing i have noted is that problem tenants have been evicted, but where have they been moved too, is the problem merely being moved elsewhere.”

“The reason the crime rate has dropped so much is that a 'core' of repeat offenders have been locked up. The policing of Radcliffe remains pratically non existant. So for the Police/Council to claim that their 'initiatives' have paid off is a load of after hard work is a load of rubbish. As soon as these repeat offenders are out the crime rates will be back to the usual standard. Get off your blinkered horse Mr Haywood!! Some good stats appear and you jump on them claiming that all the waste of time 'policing' that Radcliffe residents have seen is working”
