STRELLEY resident Clive Thorpe is set to see his housing benefit cut by nearly £10 a week when the housing benefit changes come in on April 1.

The 51-year-old is wheelchair bound and suffers from spondylosis – degeneration of the spine – and angina, with his three-bedroom property in Flamstead Road having thousands of pounds in adaptations such as a stairlift and wet room.

He said: "It's already causing me a lot of worry – it's going to affect us in a big way because it's not as if we've got money kicking around to spare.

"The other thing is, when we moved here 32 years ago, no one knew these things would change and that one day someone would think we have one bedroom too many and that we would be financially punished for that.
