Pubs being urged to use plastic glasses on busiest nights
POLICE are calling for pub landlords to serve drinks in plastic glasses on their busiest nights.
If pubs refuse the request, they could be banned from using glasses at all times.
The call to landlords in Retford and Worksop comes two weeks after a 32-year-old man was jailed for 15 months after glassing another man in a Retford pub.
The attack, which took place in the Litten Tree pub in March 2010, left the victim, who was in his 40s, requiring 25 stitches.
The Litten Tree is among those pubs where drinks are currently served in safer polycarbonate glasses on Friday and Saturday nights. But a minority of venues do not, citing cost and branding regulations. But the police say they will deal robustly with landlords who refuse to comply.
Sergeant Andy Wilson said: "We have the power to call a review of the licensing conditions. That could result in the licensee being required to serve drinks in polycarbonate glassware at all times."

“Make all pubs use plastic glasses all the time.
Make pubs contribute more towards night time policing.
Bring licensing hours back to a sensible limit.
Reduce the number of alcohol licences granted.
Ban cheap drinks offers in pubs and supermarkets.
Until central and local government has the gonads to put all these measures in place, we are gonna keep having serious problems.
These measures won't completely remove the actions of idiots but they will help reduce them.”
