But the dog's owner says the animal – a Shar Pei Bull mastiff cross called Chunk – is a harmless pet who plays with her children.
Owner Donna Green said she could not understand the decision.
"It's a family pet – he's not bitten anybody," she said.
Resident Glenis Whysall, 57, said she had to make special trips for wedding anniversary cards and her husband's birthday.
"It's suspended indefinitely and when I went to collect mail on Friday I asked if it was going to be resolved and they said it was going to take months," she added.
The Royal Mail said it is working with police and the local dog warden to resolve the situation.

“So the NEP's pathetic attempt to illicit some sympathy for these poor mail-less residents kind of fell flat then!”

“Kissit, why not try and control your emotions a little and stop "shouting" i.e. using block capitals. It doesn't add to any argument and can indeed detract from any sensible points being made. I think by now everyone knows that Slick is inclined to post outrageous comments just to stir up other posters and that they should be taken with a very large spoon of salt or a wry laugh.
No matter what breed a dog is it should not be allowed to roam freely around the streets and any owner who allows this is irresponsible and unfit to own one.”

“AS FOR ... ''This cross-bred dog combines aggression, size and strength. It should be put down as should its breeder, owner and anyone else involved in its production. Sadly, SlickSpoons capital punishment is prohibited by Convention so these irresponsible people will carry on in their anti-social way''................Are you serious ? A DOG IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT ,IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT GOD DAMN BREED IT IS OR IS MIXED WITH ?!!SHALLOW TO THINK SO . So you would be happy to approach any jack russell ? terrier ? collie ? because of its breed they are ok are they ? its discipline my darling AND THE EFFIN DIFFERENCE BETWEEN IDIOT PEOPLE OWNING A DOG OF CERTAIN TARRED BREEDS THAT CERTAIN FOLKS OF OBVIOUS INEXPERIENCE FAIL TO SEE IS , These dogs are used for a reason EXACTLEY BECAUSE THEY LOOK THE PART !! ....The ********s wouldnt look so great giving it the big i am on the corner armed with a jack russell common sense!!! Any dog is not good in the WRONG HANDS ITS NOT A CERTAIN BREED .”

“Im sure the dog is not a bad dog or a danger/likely to eat you as a snack BUT STILL not everybody knows this therefore so shouldnt be expected to take the chance on the word of some other person and maybe the person has had a bad experience etc etc ,So harmless or not is not rellevant , You expect to be allowed your pets or animals to roam Probably good idea you get your own acres of land as it doesnt go down well as you can see ................ ;/ x”

“If they DONT get it they assert themselves to decision makers”

“No mr spoons you've clearly not understood my post sir, I clearly pointed out that this type of animal requires supervision when outside the family home. An animal like that, when confronted with a decision or a stranger, it's instinct should be to STOP in its tracks and look to the pack, that it knows, it's leaders for instruction.... Perfect example, I know that when I cycle on the single lane canal, if I encounter a dog ahead, walking in front of its owner, if it sees me, stops dead in it tracks and looks back for its owners instruction, I'm safe! If it sees me and continues to move towards me with vigour without pausing for instruction I should stop in my tracks and be very wary. Dogs are first and foremost pack animals, they need authority, it's in their genetic makeup. If they do get it they assert themselves to decision makers and make inhuman decisions to protect 'their' pack. Once you embrace the psychology that your dog adheres to you get great results from them.... Dogs aren't anarchists such as yourself mr spoons, without leadership that they actually want they become stressed! That's why humans and canines have had such a wonderful symbiotic relationship for thousands of years.”

“the dog should be taken away from the idiotic owner who thinks its ok to leave this animal unsupervised while swearing it loves kids...we have heard it all before luvvie, google search all recent dog killings of kids and most of them would have uttered the moronic phrase 'he was good with kids'. The owners are a disgrace and the poor dog will end up suffering,it makes me sick.”
