AT last action is being taken to fix one of the last remaining eyesores in Nottingham's Lace Market.

Originally, a fine town house, the derelict property at 41 Pilcher Gate has been left to rot during the past 20 years.

The listed building has proved particularly problematic with the owner apparently unable to bring it back into use.

However, a creative solution is now being sought.

Metropolitan Housing is prepared to take over the property and provide affordable city housing.

But the scheme will need public money.

And while the city benefits by enhancing an important area, it is important the authorities are careful to ensure the tax payer gets a fair deal.
