IT is great to see that the work done by Stonebridge City Farm is being given richly deserved recognition.

Since it opened at the end of the 1970s, the farm in St Ann's has run courses which have opened up a variety of opportunities for young people in the area.

It is accessible to all – families with young children, people with disabilities, and parties from schools and colleges. The work it has done has led to awards – and rightly so.

But, as so many charitable organisations have found to their cost, times are currently hard and there isn't a bottomless pit of money to run their vital projects.

This is why grants like the £30,000 it has received from Comic Relief provide a much-needed boost.

We applaud the decision to give this funding to Stonebridge farm.

And we also applaud Nottingham East MP Chris Leslie for setting up yesterday's corporate lunch day to raise awareness of the farm.

It was from visiting the farm with his two-year-old daughter that he first witnessed the good work done there and decided that he wanted to do what he could to help raise its profile.

As much as the Comic Relief cash is appreciated, it can help to make ends meet for the next two years. But where does the farm go after that?

It was great to see big firms such as Boots, Experian, Capital One, Ernst and Young and Ikano at the event to throw their weight behind the project.

No one has made a pledge to officially back the firm, but it is encouraging nonetheless that they made the effort to attend yesterday.

If MPs and major firms such as these can get behind Stonebridge, hopefully the next 30 years will be just as successful and people in and around St Ann's will reap the rewards of its work.

Keep up the good work, Stonebridge.
