Post Comment: Hucknall police chief makes good start
THE latest police officer to take on the role of Local Area Commander in Hucknall has made a promising start.
One of Inspector Russell Dew's first actions was to put himself before the public at a heated meeting where residents expressed their dissatisfaction.
Wedged between Mansfield and Nottingham, Hucknall people believe they lose out with local coppers called away to police these larger centres, particularly at night.
Their concerns are not allayed when they can see there is a revolving door at the Hucknall cop shop with senior officers not staying more than a few months.
But Insp Dew insists he will bring a more "consistent" approach to policing the town. He has already stepped up action against the persistent problem posed by the car enthusiasts, known as 'cruisers', who gather near junction 27 at weekends.
And he has secured longer opening hours for the local police station.
Both moves are welcome. Let's hope this is the just start.
