POLICE have warned parents they will be fined if they allow their children to take alcohol from home to drink on the street.

It follows a number of operations in and around Farnsfield on Friday and Saturday nights when police stopped groups of teenagers and seized alcohol.

Beat manager PC Keith Thompson said there had been "ongoing problems" with drunken antisocial behaviour committed by young teenagers.

He said: "It has become apparent through stopping and taking details from young people that many of them are being allowed to take bottles and cans of alcohol from home.

"This is unacceptable and against the law. Parents can be fined £80 for supplying alcohol to an under 18."

Police have issued warning letters to those parents whose children have been stopped during operations.

They have also appealed for members of the public to report parents supplying alcohol.

On one evening police seized 120 bottles or cans of alcohol.

PC Thompson added: "We have the support of local businesses who agreed not to sell alcohol to anyone under the age of 21 on Friday and Saturday nights and we now need the support of parents."

“An inherant problem which affects so many people which society has to accept responsibility for.
How many women for example are out working at all hours, some through necessity, and others because they have a career.
Parental responsibility is waning predominantly through the nanny state, and parents simply not accepting responsibility for their children, in fact most even blame the Police when they catch their children drinking.
Good old fashioned discipline is what is needed, and parents being made accountable for their childrens actions.”

“Why don't these youngsters take a leaf out of Uncle Lesta's Schooldays and brew their own booze ? Perfectly legal for an under 18 to buy the ingredients and kit to make homemade beer and wine. They could even do a bit of scrumping (great apple harvest this year) and make some homemade cider. Drink at home kids. That's what the adults are doing these days. Oh, that may be the reason that your parents want you out the house !”
