He then returns and steals cables and a video camera.

The burglary happened at about 11.45pm on Friday, July 16, and was captured on film by secret cameras installed in the University of Nottingham room.

Hidden cameras set up alongside bogus electrical items are part of a covert policing technique known as a 'capture house'.

Notts Police have been using this tactic to catch burglars in the act for a number of years.

“I've seen a couple of these recently on the news and they caught the other ones. This one will fall soon. Better that hm breaking into your home if he does get caught.
A good idea and keeps the thieving scum on their toes! Good luck policemen.”

“what's the point in having a Capture House if they don't capture the dude... asking the public for info - fair play, the police have to be seen as doing summat, but this is just high visibility and high cost lip service, trying to reassure the already too big student population that it's safe in nottingham. if they were serious about capturing, they would have officers / security guards on hand to wait for him...”
