Camera blunder was unique, say Police
A NOTTINGHAMSHIRE Police spokesman said: "In this situation, there is no fault with the camera as it has been correctly activated by a speeding vehicle.
"Unfortunately Mr Buck regularly parks his vehicle close to the camera, and the software used to read number plates has captured his car's number plate in the image.
"Every image is verified to make sure the vehicle registration number of the offending vehicle is correct.
"But on two occasions we have failed in this process.
"On both occasions the offending vehicle number plates were similar to those of Mr Buck's vehicle registration number.
"The situation on Watnall Road is unique because residents park on the road directly in front of the camera.
"We are not aware of this problem at other sites. We hope that residents in this area appreciate the camera is there to reduce the number of speeding motorists.
"We have written to Mr Buck to offer our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused."
Following this incident, staff have been given guidance on the importance of verifying the images.
