NOTTS Police officers have been given a 7,000-word guide on how to send an e-mail, it has been reported.

The instructions include tips on which font to use, addressing e-mail and checking for new messages.

The 22-page document also warns of the "dangers" of internet use and the risk of providing staff with internet access.

Officers have slammed the paper as a waste of money, according to reports in a national newspaper.

A Notts Police spokesman said: "The e-mail guidance is intended to support the force's aim of communicating professionally and consistently at all times, to minimise the sending of unnecessary e-mails, and to ensure officers and staff are regularly checking their e-mails so they can respond quickly."

The documents were obtained under the Freedom of Information Act.

“And these are the people emerging from schools, having been taught by " the best generation of teachers ever" (Copyright E Balls) with "the best exam results ever" (Copyright E Balls). They are, however, part of the worst police force in the country, despite being paid ludicrous salaries, and are apparently incapable of doing what most members of the general public manage daily.
When do you suppose they will be given booklets on how to prevent crime? Catch criminals? Some time before the end of the century?”

“At 7,000 words all I can suppose is that they got BJ to write it for them.”

“Considering the number of so-called intelligent people who have been caught out by indiscrete and unprofessional emailing, I think this is probably a wise precaution. Emails can be hacked into by criminals and media hacks (no pun intended) and, if leaked to the general public the police could expect howls of derision, especially if the punctuation and grammar are faulty. If MPs and spin-doctors are careless in their use of emails it is hardly surprising that your average copper might need detailed guidance.”

“The other thing of course is just how much of the Tax Payers money as this cost? No doubt a little 'research unit' was set up to look at Force emails, no doubt headed by a Senior Officer. Months later come up with the booklet. Absolutely amazing once again. As for catching those criminals carrying guns, well without the progress of DNA over the years, Lawrence's killer would be still on the loose. Not exactly 'investigative' Police Work?”

“I thought our police were sat at their desks sending emails to one another anyway , because we never see them out on the streets . What a waste of space Julia Hodson is turning out to be .”

“7000 word email tuition what a laugh.
I'm 65 and Ive been sending emails for some 15 years.I didn't need 7000 words to help me.
No wonder the Police Force in Nottingham is in a shambles.
I know kids of 9 and 10 who are more computer literate than the Police.
Juila Hodson is having a Laugh, she must be the laughing stock of the World.
Talk about the Key stone Cops”

“Perhaps they should also be supplied with a Bumper Sudoku Book... you know, for when they've got a bit of time on their hands.”
