Police appeal after 23-year-old shot in the leg
RESIDENTS have spoken of their shock after a man was shot in the leg near their homes.
Armed police were sent to the Larkdale Street area on the edge of the Arboretum after reports of a gunshot at 7.50pm on Friday.
A 23-year-old Bulwell man was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre with a wounded leg, but has now been discharged from hospital.
Police said his injuries were believed to have been caused by a gun.
Larkdale Street was sealed off at its junctions with Forest Road West and Tennyson Street, as well as Burns Street at the junction with Wildman Street.
The cordon was lifted at 10am on Saturday after the scene was examined. Officers also carried out house to house enquiries.
Jawad Kharoti, shop assistant at the Chahal Convenience Store in Larkdale Street, was closing up when he heard a bang.
"I heard something but I didn't know what it was – but I heard a bang," he said.
"It was closing time and I was rushing to get my bus so I didn't bother. I thought it was a car.
"When I came in to open the shop in the morning the police didn't let me because the road was blocked.
"Customers explained to me that there had been a shooting. Someone said it had been in the street.
"That was evening time. What if there were kids or someone in the street?"
Student Rachel Littlechild, 22, who lives in a shared house in Wildman Street, said: "The guy who lives on the top floor said he thought he heard a gun shot.
"But I didn't hear anything. It really scares me. It seems like crime has been increasing around here which is a bit worrying."
David Bothwell, of Larkdale Street, said he spoke to a police officer after the area was cordoned off.
"They said no one was killed so that led me to believe someone was injured," said the 28-year-old student.
"Nottingham has quite a bad reputation but round here it is relatively quiet so I was quite surprised."
Jeremiah Mtotela, 22, of Larkdale Street, said: "When I came home from work at about 10pm the road was closed.
"It is scary. I have only started living here three months ago."
A 42-year-old resident of Larkdale Street, who did not want to be named, said he was not frightened despite the incident.
"It happens all over Nottingham. That's what it seems like," he said.
"I didn't know it had happened until the police came round. They said there had been an incident and someone had been attacked and injured and when I pressed them they said someone had been shot.
"I feel I should be shocked – but I'm not. I don't feel scared going out."
No arrests have been made, and police carried out door-to-door enquires into the incident over the weekend.
Anyone with information is asked to call Notts Police on 0300 300 9999 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
