Councillor Dave Trimble, portfolio holder for leisure culture and tourism, said: "Nottingham has a proud military heritage and is honoured to host this national event.

"We want to say thank you for the huge contribution and sacrifices made by our service personnel past and present.

"There are over 2,000 service personnel and their families in Notts and this competition gives a chance for all our children and young people to get involved."

Entries will be judged by a panel looking for poems which are heart-warming and inspirational and either highlight the strength of support towards local troops and or celebrate the contribution made by forces members.

Entries should be emailed to jean.jackson@nottinghamcity.gov.uk or posted to: Learning, Engagement & Collections Team at Nottingham City Museums & Galleries, c/o Communities Courtyard, Wollaton Road, Nottingham, NG8 2AD.

The deadline is Thursday, March 28.
