A RAVENSHEAD man has beaten more than 10,000 people to be named as the winner of a national photography competition.

Jonny Thatcher's shot 'Sandboy', left, was selected by TV presenter Lisa Snowdon in the Currys' Our Lives competition, run by the electrical retailer in conjunction with Panasonic.

'Sandboy' was taken by Jonny during a short family break earlier this year, and features his son, Tom, who after being born at just 24 weeks was left severely physically disabled and deaf.

Jonny said: "What I particularly like about this picture is that is shows Tom as just a regular boy, without the viewer being aware of his disabilities.''

Mr Thatcher was presented with the first prize by guest judge and photography enthusiast Ms Snowdon during a private ceremony at the Mall Galleries in London this week.
