Detectives are appealing for witnesses to the incident.
DC Paul Kirkby, from Meadows CID, said: “This was a despicable and cowardly attack on an elderly woman who was innocently walking home following a Christmas shopping trip.
“The suspect may have been loitering in the area before the robbery so someone may have seen him acting suspiciously.
“If you have any information about the incident, or if you know who is responsible, call police immediately.”
The man is white, between 20 and 30 years old, about 5ft 5ins tall, of average build and was wearing a light coloured jacket and dark bottoms.
Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call DC Paul Kirkby on 101 extension 853 6460 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

“never mind the police returning to the streets, howabout we build a nice gallows in between the lions on the square and return this despicable cretin to his maker! I would happily pull the lever, tie the noose or anything to assist.”

“If police returned to the streets rather than becoming pen pushers perhaps these incidents would not be as common as they are. There are many reasons why people will commit this type of offence but only one reason why they continue to commit them and get away with them - and that is because the government and justice system continues to fail the people of the UK!
Read my blog at http://tinyurl.com/b3dgvns for more insights into why a revolution of the UK government is required.”

“I hope the poor lady is not going to be waiting for the police to catch the robbers as my granddaughter was attacked and robbed in her own home last Tuesday in front of her 2 small children of her jewellery and her mobile phone after returning home from shopping she suffered fractured ribs and now she and her eldest little boy who is 6 are terrified of going back home to where she had lived for just under a week and apparently the police and Nottingham City Homes do not think that is serious what should they have done to her leave her dead with 2 small children sat over her body in her own lounge unless you are dead police do not want to know all they are interested in is booking the nest drink driver or that someone who has dropped their cigarette end on the floor in other words easy targets . But I do wish this lady a speedy recovery and a very happy Christmas and Peaceful New Year .”
